Introducing Shorts Edition

Introducing Shorts Edition: a new podcast & interview series about the making of NO PANTS IN TUCSON.

For the past 5 weeks I have been virtually gathering with the cast and team of No Pants In Tucson to discuss, create and share pieces of what this show might become.

Devising an ensemble show isolated in our homes, wasn’t exactly what we had in mind when we started this process last summer, but here we are, doing what artists do: doing the work and making it work.

There have been so many surprising delights in this accidental creative process.

We’ve all gotten pretty handy with smart phone video editing apps. We’ve scoured our closets for props and costumes. We’ve passed along photos and videos creating mini collaborative movies a la “telephone” style. The show will be shaped by this new mode of creation and because of that it will be different and in my humble opinion, wonderful.

But of course, as we all are realizing so acutely now, we ache to be together.

There is something lost when you don’t stroll into the rehearsal space early chatting over a snack or when you can’t sprint out the door for a coffee on a 10 minute break. The moments shared when your subway ride home follows the same route are gone. Drinks after an evening rehearsal don’t exist. We are all learning about one another over a screen while some of our children yell in the background (mine, usually.)

Initially, I wanted to interview my fellow cast-mates so that all of YOU could get to know them--so that you could see their talents and have a peek into their lives.

I wanted to share our work with you but also share our people with you. This is still true. But it is worth mentioning, that for the first time I feel like I got to feel those beloved cast connections that I have been so badly missing. So here is what I’ve learned about my dear collaborators.

Consider this my extended virtual subway ride home.
